Senator Hancock Elected Republican Caucus Chairman

February 2, 2015

AUSTIN – Today, Senator Kelly Hancock (R-North Richland Hills) was named Chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus. Hancock’s colleagues elected him to the leadership role in a unanimous vote of confidence at the State Capitol.

“It’s an honor to serve as Chairman of the Senate Republican Caucus for the 84th Legislative Session,” said Hancock. “I look forward to working diligently on common sense, conservative issues with Vice-Chairman Brandon Creighton and other members of the Caucus. We know the people of Texas have spoken loud and clear about the way our state government should function, and we intend to act.”

The Senate Republican Caucus meets regularly throughout each legislative session to discuss policy positions and prepare for floor votes. As Chairman, Senator Hancock will work to build consensus within the caucus membership and serve as a resource for his Republican colleagues.

Tremendous victory tonight for Pete Flores who will become the 21st member of the Texas Senate Republican Caucus! This gives the Republicans in the Texas Senate a 2/3rds supermajority.

This victory shows the unified support from Texas Republicans all the way from US Senators Cruz and Cornyn, to Governor Abbott, to Lt. Governor Patrick, all 20 Texas Senate Republican Caucus members and many others. Despite what some pundits might say Republicans can win in 2018!

Texas Senate Republican Caucus Chair Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) added: "With no straight ticket voting in 2020 I predict that Pete Flores can hold this seat in 2020."
