Texas Senate Republican Caucus Members Are Unopposed In GOP Primary

December 12, 2019

AUSTIN – Caucus Chairman Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) announced that all nine members of the Texas Senate Republican Caucus that are on the ballot in the 2020 election cycle will be unopposed in the March Republican Primary. This is a testament to the historic record of accomplishment by the Republican led Texas Senate, under the leadership of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, in passing conservative solutions to Texas challenges.

“It is no surprise that no Republican state senator has a challenger in the 2020 Primary Election,” said Lt. Governor Patrick. “The hard work of the Republican senators on the ballot — Pete Flores, Bryan Hughes, Brandon Creighton, Larry Taylor, Jane Nelson, Lois Kolkhorst, Brian Birdwell, Dawn Buckingham and Charles Perry — demonstrates what principled conservatives can do. These senators told the people of their districts what they were going to do – and they did it – which is why no one is challenging them. I will be working hard to help them defeat their Democrat challengers in November” he added.

Senator Paxton (R-McKinney), 2nd Vice-President of the Texas Senate Republican Caucus who is not on the ballot in 2020, added on behalf of Vice-Chairman Creighton and Caucus Treasurer Hughes the following: “Filing has closed and ALL our Republican State Senators will be unopposed in the upcoming Texas primary. I’m honored to serve along side principled, seasoned legislators who demonstrate their respect for their constituents and their office by putting their district first.”

With the Texas Senate Republican Caucus leading the way, the Legislature passed landmark legislation to provide meaningful property tax reform and relief for seven million Texas property owners while making significant reforms to the Texas education system.

In addition to property tax and education reform, the GOP led Legislature passed, and Gov Abbott signed:
Pay raises for Texas teachers and more money for Texas classrooms
School Safety Legislation in response to the shooting at Santa Fe High School
Relief for Hurricane Harvey
The Texas Born Alive Infant Protection Act
Legislation to protect religious liberty
Legislation to further secure the Texas Border
Legislation to allow more competition with “beer to go” laws

“The fact that all nine Republican Caucus members are unopposed speaks volumes about what Texans think of the Texas Senate under Lt. Governor Dan Patrick and its Republican majority,” added Chairman Bettencourt. “An eight minute video summarizing these conservative accomplishments was viewed by 506,000 Texans to an astonishing response.” Full video link here:

Lastly Chairman Bettencourt quipped: “Senator Perry ‘won the sweepstakes’ as he is also unopposed in the November General Election!”
